Can an 24v Diesel Eber be converted to 12v?
Haven't got one yet but if a conversion is possible I could possibly source a 24v one from a local truck breakers

Re: Eber question
Here is a copy of a reply I gave another member concerning this:
The first thing that you will need is a cheap source of a 12 to 24v converter. I have used Nikkai laptop dc to dc converters that give me about 8 amps at 20/22v which is sufficient to safely run Webasto airtop 2000s (they will run on 19 to 30volts) - these have the modern glow pin as opposed to the old glow plugs which have a higher start-up current requirement. The Eberspacher Airtronic d2 and d4 also use a glow pin so are suitable candidates also. I have not been able to source a supplier of the laptop converters since Maplins sold out (they had them on half price offer when I got mine at £20 each) you need one that is rated at 150 watts or higher. Trouble is the highest that I can find on the market now seems to be 120w which is underpowered for what we need.Full blown 10 amp 12 to 24v converters are pricey at around £80.
If you do not need to have a timer or remote switching that is all you need.
Once you need the timer it becomes more complicated as you need to add another small converter to permanently run the timer (only a couple of pounds from China) a hefty diode, a couple of transistors and a relay.
Remote switching can also be added once you are up and running - wireless or by phone with more cheap components and relays.(Saves getting out of bed to go and warm the van up on cold mornings or it's a long cold walk back to the van).
I only started to do it this way when posters on another site said it couldn't be done so I did it just to prove them wrong and a lot cheaper than they worked out it would cost!
So if you can source a cheap 12 to 24v converter you are home and dry.
If you get as far as taking the plunge on this and need help for adding the timer etc. give me a shout.
