Part Needed
Can anyone help me find the following part please... 251121442A. It's a plastic junction on the cooling hose system that lives just under the air filter on my 2.1i waterboxer. Lost all my water yesterday and pinpointed this as the cause, tried to patch-up the hairline cracks with a soldering iron and some cable ties but it still leaks very slightly. I've checked on the GSF site but no luck.
Cheers, Chris

Seemed to be the case with mine. I had a hairline crack all the along it... I'm presuming this is what caused me to lose all my water in about 30 seconds, although at first I thought I burst a hose because the loss of all water was so quick. After patching it up water loss slowed right down to a dribble but it's in such a tricky position it's hard to see. Fingers crossed with the new one.
Also, I remember reading a post on here about bleeding and re-filling the system, is it essential to put the front up on ramps... cos' I haven't got any and its pretty flat round our way!
Cheers, Chris

Billy, You're well-informed, you reckon if I order a 251121442A now I'll get a metal part not a plastic one? Any more info to corroborate this ? BTW the ETOS list price for this is £28 plus VAT.

I'd be supprised if it was, I'vr had two of the 2wd versions 438 and 438A thro my hands from vw this week and they are plastic, cast and welded. I've got a good s/h syncro one and one with a known leak - it's from the end cap that is press/glue/welded in..not sure if it's repairable. One day it was fine, next day there was a weep.
<If your just replaceing the pipe-& not draining the whole system-bleeding on the flat should be sufficient>
There's still quite a bit of water (water only, not water/coolant mix) in the system, so I presume I'll need to drain the whole system anyway if I'm going to have to replace the water/coolant mix and.... if I remove the pipe/joint, won't I lose all my water anyway?
I found the archive on how to refill & bleed the system but it assumes you have an empty system. I tried to read the 'Drain' archive but it says <Login required to E D I T>????

-Andy--I replaced this elbow a few yrs ago & VW parts gave me a metal one + gasket--but more recently a post on tech said VW had no stock of this part-anywhere---but maybe now they have-you can but try--
Kit---whenever Ive replaced bits of me cooling--hoses or what ever--I jus place a bucket underneath--change pipe--filter contents of bucket thru stocking into jug---pour back into main coolant tank-(leave lid off)-start engine---loosen bleed bolt on rad--till bubble free water flows out-tighten-brim coolant tank---done-check level in top up tank after run----If you want to drain & refill whole system--you wont empty it completely unless you undo drain plugs on engine(not a good idea imho)disconect large hoses at lowest point & stick hose pipe in--this should push old coolant out & leave you with about 6 litres of clean water in system--do up pipes--then pour 8.5 litres of neat antifreeze into coolant tank(heater on full)bleed screws open--start engine wedge pedal for fast tickover--top up tank with water as reqiured---when bubble free water pours out of rad bleed screw-tighten--tighten bleed screw on thermostat--brim coolant tank---if you want to run front wheels on ramps & repeat proceedure-you can--
