new engine wont start! Help!

Post by skint-van-man »

Evening all, picked up my new 1.9 DG waterboxer from the engine shop saturday morning and spent all wknd sorting it. Finally got it in and ready to start this afternoon.

Turned over without HT lead to build up a bit of presure first and then connected it back up. Nothing.....

I have a spark, there is fuel coming through and the spark plugs seem wet.

I got three fires out of it and thats it. flattened three batterys with no result! HELP!

How do i know if my dizzy is it the correct place? i aligned it acording to Mr haynes manual but how do i know if its too advanced or retarded?

Desperate for some help. looks like i may have to take a day off work to sort it as im being kicked out of the shed its in tomorrow. :(

Put a capful of petrol down carb throat just before starting on fully charged battery. If it don't start its almost certainly spark or timing.

i think its timing as ive got wet plugs... do early T25's have different dizzy's to late ones? I had a late non original engine (two oil pressure switches and now have the correct early type (single oil pressure switch).

Measuring the dizzy shaft i make it to be 51mm and the hole down to the drive seams to be 53-54 mm. when im turning the engine over with a spanner the drive seems to stop and start randomly making it out of time?? it seems like the dizzy drive arms are not fully in contact with the drive shaft...?

confusing!
