Help!!!! Carb and bad running problems.

Post by Catspanker2002 »

Hi, could anyone give me a bit of advice on a problem Im having with my aircoooled 81 Bus. Have set the carbs up and done this many times but the van misses and hunts on gentle acceleration ans seems down on power. On looking down the carbs I noticed that there is fuel dripping from the accelerator pump nozzle when the engine is running anywhere above idle. Seems worse on one carb than the other. Im suspecting this is causing the hunting and poor running as well as the missing. Anyone any ideas on how this should look and operate normally, why its doing it, how to fix it and anywhere else I should start to work on to get rid of the miss. Am fairly sure its not the ignition side of things as Ive replaced much. Also dont seem to be able to get the idle down to somewhere near sensible. Thanks :D

Hi, i used to have these carbs on a 2ltr air cooled bay, can't help but say the obvious that they get very worn over the years and spindles may be cause of hunting as they wear themselves loose. i think its well worth a gasure rebuild if u can as i killed an engine running worn solex's . Tim

hi mate ive had this problem with my 82 Aircooled, but it was pooring into both my carbs ended up breaking down, im no expert but its worth a try. I took the carb off took the top off my carb found the needle valves were sticking on and the chamber kept over filling then flowing though that little nozle in the top of the carb, as a tempory fix just sparyed it with wd40 work again fine for a few days, then got some new valves new fuel filter and its been fine like i say im no expert but it could be worth a try good luck :ok andy

Thanks, have had another look at it and it seems to be the left hand carb and its not dripping from the accelerator pump nozzle but the other larger nozzle and only when the revs are increased. Have looked at the float and valve and they seem fine but is still dripping from this nozzle, other side is fine. Am now sure this is the problem but have no idea whats going on...Anyone got a answer? :?
