I have an unlucky AAZ 1.9TD and the woodruff key on the cambelt crank pulley sheered and it has broken half of the hydraulic tappets and bent a valve or possibly 2 - still taking it apart!
I have access to a SEAT 1.9 naturally aspirated van with what looks like an identical head on it. I don't know the reg of the van, but does anyone know if it's compatible. Obviously the bottom end will be higher compression on the SEAT, but will the valves train, etc. be the same?
Fingers crossed, or looking for a new head/engine.
Thanks in advance, Andy

likely to have clamped down on top piston rings as well, very common when this happens to AAZ's.

Yes the Head off the Seat N/A. 1.9D will go on, When re/fitting the Head use the 3 hole Head Gasket, (thickest) you will need new headbolts on assembly.
If you look at the lefthand side of the Seat block. below the cylinderhead you should see a large number. 1.9D / TD if it has this then the engine can be Turbo,ed Engine is the same as the AAZ, only it has been set up as a non turbo, ie, Different pump and pump fuel timing has been setup for an N/A.
As I have said previously if the block is stamped 1.9D/TD plant the Seat in and just use your old AAZ turbo pump and Turbo associated parts from the AAZ, the TD indicates that there is oil spray jets at the bottom of the cylinder bore which spray (inject oil) to the underside of the piston crowns for cooling the pistons, Hope this is of help to you. ------------------

Grumpy M > Thanks, an engine change may be the answer then. I'll check the engine code on Monday.
Andy > When you say the top ring has may have 'clamped down', what do you mean? The crank rotates smoothly when I put it in gear and push the van very gently.
Thanks gentlemen, it's possible you've made my weekend!
