Spare wheel carriers & fitting bike-racks.

Post by KarlT »

Hi Chaps.
I'm thinking about splashing yet more money!!!
This time on Pete's rear wheel carrier BUT.............Has anyone with one every tried fitting a cycle-carrier aswell?
I'm thinking the Towbar mounted ones might work, do they miss the tyre?
Cheers in advance.

A paulchen bike rack fitted just off center fits a bike on i think. Jake has one and a rear wheel carrier. I am picking my wheel carrier up from Pete in the morning and know he is making a new batch as he has had quite a few orders in so would give him the nod if you want one

Anyone got any side on shots.
I'll need to carry at least 3 maybe 4 bikes. Seen a nice looking towbar mounted one but am worried about it fouling the spare.

Gary Lee will make up something that should work; you will need deep pockets and you wont like the shipping! I got a ladder with luggage carrier a few years back; fitted a Fiamma cycle bar and can carry one bike across the back of my wheel carrier. Good quality kit and no holes in your van.

Nice one Jed,just what i was looking for! If Pete,s spare wheel carrier is used as standard, ie with the wheel the wrong way round, a towbar mounted bike carrier should fit. Just had a quick look and measure.

I think carriers that the bikes "sit on" rather than "hang from" are a better bet for the simple reason that our lass's full suspension bike doesn't have a top tube, which I never considered when I bought a "universal" rack and found there was no way of hanging the bike from it

Just thought I'd drop that in in case it helps anyone else avoid that simple mistake, obviously depends on your bikes but.... :ok
What a long strange trip it's been

There are bike carriers that work off a tow bar, the is a piece that sandwiches between the blot on ball and the main frame of the tow bar. In to this slides the bike carrier.
Not sure who makes them but the old man had one a about 12 years ago.

If I've got a RHD van, do I want the spare tyre on the left or the right?
Was on the right on my previous LHD syncro, spare is on the front of my current one at the moment!

Infront of the wardrobe if you have a camper so you can still see clearly out of the back window.
