Dash speedo unit rev wiring info help please.

Post by devoncamperman »

Hi does anyone have pin wiring info for the speedo unit.
My van was origionally Aircooled but now is aaz diesel, the temp sensor glow plug light etc is all wired up.
But i have just bought a speedo unit with rev counter and digital clock and was wondering what each of the pins are for, so i can connect it properly.
Also the Low coolant level circuit i have never connected, i have the relay (thing) 43 but i cant just plug it into the fuse box as it was Aircooled. any advice on hard wiring it in.
Any help would be appricieted. Cheers

With a digital Clock then it should be a post 86 dash but your a/c dash multiconnector will have many of the cables and pins missing.

Pin 1 Panel Lights
Pin2 Main beam Light
Pin 3 Earth
Pin 4 N/C (not Connected)
Pin 5 Clock
Pin 6 Temp Gauge
Pin 7 Fuel Gauge
Pin 8 12V ignition feed
pin 9 RPM Tach0 Signal (from Alternator on Diesel Models)
Pin 10 Turn Indicator LED
Pin 11 Alternator Charge LED
Pin 12 Oil Pressure Switch High (Bar rating different for Diesels and Petrol)
Pin 13 Oil Pressure Switch Low Bar
Pin 14 Glow Plug LED

Will post details for hard wiring the LSCU module 43 later.......

The digram is from the front, just hold the module with the pins so that they are at the rear and orientated as shown below...........the pin labeled Temp Sender can go to pin 6 of the mutlti connector and just hooks to the wire going to the temp sender. By the way, is the new dash from a Deisel or Petrol model? The DOPS boards are different, same conx but different chipsets......you might need to get a 14 pin multiconnector with a short section of loom from a later model scrappy. That way you will have all the wires needed on the edge connector and will be able to link to them......

Top man thanks for speedy and detailed reply, perfect when i get a few mins i can have some fun.
It is from a diesel as has the glow plug light but i thought vw tachos had diesel writen on the face if it is a diesel but maybe not t25's.
The dash is 1988. I agree i could really do with getting the plug with short wires to help instalation.
Thanks again for your help!!

Sorry just looking at your info, does the level sensor wire only connect to the relay 43 thing and not to the dash as it's not on the wiring info?
When i first converted i connected this wire straight to the little nut on the back of the temp gauge so it would make the red light work but did not realise that when the engine is warm/hot and i started it up the red light always flashed. Did not know 43 existed.
Thanks again

Coolant sender only connects to the LSCU module 43. Remove the LSCU and the level sender is then isolated from the coolant electrical system. Being able to remove it is useful for elimating this part of the circuit in the event of Coolant Led flashing faults........BTW does the AAZ have the two oil pressure switches? If not ground pin 12........
