roof lining

I've switched this question from "camping" to technical in the search for an answer.
I want to line the interior roof prior to fitting a hightop to my panelvan.
I would like to use insulation behind hardboard which will be lined with material. What's the best suggestion on doing this? do I need to fix wooden battons to the frame work first or just screw the boarding direct to the framework?
Your expert advice as usual would be greatly appreciated

4mm Marine ply cut to shape, covered and then screwed to the re-inforcement rails.

I am currently doing my roof lining. The insulation i have have used is called rockwool. Or you can just use insulation you get from diy stores ie Hombase etc the stuff you use for your loft.

Thanks pj. How many rolls of the loft insulation would it take to do the roof, the rear side panels(I have no windows in the rear) and the tailgate?
As per other members advice, I will put plastic sheeting on the panels first to avoid the codensation issue.

Wickes currently have an offer of 3xrolls of space blanket for £11.99. Bit easier to work with as its already in a bag and if you need shorter lengths you can cut it and reseal the ends with duck tape or similar. MORE than enough to do entire roof and all side panels. For £11 it hardly matters if you have any left over.
