Got the Syncronutz guys building my 16" camper, first visit

Post by guzzi »

Hello all

Well, I have imported a 16" Carravele and 2WD Westy from Busman (euro/£ exchange still isn’t what it should be is it!) and am getting the syncronutz chaps to put it together. Going to see them this Friday for the first time and the one thing i am really, really picky about is the body work (bordering on anal to be honest) can someone give me a 'heads up' of where i should be looking re rust spots and any potential waxoiling points for the future?

Also i thinking of converting the gas hob to a Wabasto diesel one has anyone seen this done on a westy (i know, will b a song and dance with the combined hob and sink arrangement). Lastly i want to fit a compressor only fridge, but want to keep the original westy door, has anyone seen that done?

Out of interest, why try and redesign a very well tried and tested setup?

I have a 12v compressor only fridge in mine, but it does not take the westy door.

I want to change the design because i want to be Gas free, bit more space/less weight and easier to get fuel when i am abroad (going to eastern europe a lot)

Plus if i am honest i like fiddling.

re the fridge, i think i could get a 40L behind the door if my calcs are right? what size do you have in yours?

Ooh, now thats a usfull thread when it comes to fitting fridges! (Why do these things never come upwhen you do a search!?)

I will look through that at length,

So in your expeirance could i fit this behind the orignial Westy door? Like yours you can move the compressor so it loses the 182mm box at the back

Thanks all, no one seen those deisal cookers in a westy yet then?

Russel will sort you out, but the remote compressor fridge I have is fab, I can get two coke fridge packs just on the floor! Plus if the fridge needs re-charging it can be done without needing to take out the fridge.

You can change the door card to match the westy interior I expect. I have a home brew interior so have no direct experience of a Westy conversion, Mudlark has.

My fridge is 70 litres, and we use all of those every time we go camping.

The compressor fridge is great, I don't even change the thermostat setting winter to summer, it just works like your home fridge. we dont even need to pre cool, just load up and switch on.

Im pretty sure that Engel make versions of their fridges that are integrated appliance's.

You could put whatever door you wanted on i guess...?

I've spent a while researching the fridge issue, the best option seems to be Karl from Westy Ventures...

http://westyventures.com/fridgeinfo.htm

Which is the:

I likw the install with the extra drawer, more space is always useful.

At somepoint, I'll be doing this to mine - just gotta justify the spending. Oh hang on, it keeps more beers colder, it is worth every penny
