t25 AC 1981 - where's the brake light switch...?

Post by PhilBenton »

My brake lights started to work only intermitently - now they don't work at all. I don't know where to look for the brake light switch? - is it under the dash near the servo unit? Any help appreciated.

Yep, thats exactly where it is! Steering wheel end as opposed to windscreen end and underneath the cylinder. Connected to 2 spade connectors or one plastic moulded connector. Its a pressure switch that opens and closes depending on how much pressure there is in the brake lines.
Change it quickly with a rag underneath to catch drips and you shouldn't have a problem.
It's on a screw thread by the way.
Mark.

but first  ....join the two connectors in the plug together with some wire to see if it is the switch and not a wireing fault

Thanks a lot gents (and or ladies). Are the two spade terminals one for each side rear brakelight?
Do you know if i can get a switch from JustKampers if it's shot? ...and one last question - am I likely to be able to change it without haveing to bleed the brakes?

Thanks again.
