Noisy Tappet

Post by Justavan »

My 2.1 MV Doka engine has stated to chatter on one of the lifters until warmed up........... :(

I know this is quite common but what I want to know is it something I should address before it or any the other lifters get worse
or should I leave well alone.

I know there is a push rod tube you can get to replace without having to remove the head and for me it would be a simple enough task
Just not sure if its really needed or if a change in the brand of oil or type of filter might might be the answer................ :?:

Use a normal branded 15w40 oil.. or if tired a 20w50.. if its only run for short trips, this doesnt help either... may be worth checking the preloads on the rockers, I adjust to 1/2 (half) turn in from just touching, the 2 turns stated in most manuals is far too much... and VW did revise this very late on..
