Water warning light

Can anyone please help with a problem i have concerning the flashing red light on my water temp gauge-It wont go out!!! It used to come on when i first started the engine and flashed for a few seconds then went off. It now just flashes all the time. The bus runs fine and does not get hot.It has not lost or used water. Please help-its really annoying!!!!

like mocki said in the other thread,i have deleted.check your water level in the header tank(not the one behind the number plate)

Thanks for the reply. Have just checked the header tank and its full. Does that mean its probably electrical? Pete

yep
might be the sender on top of the tank.
clean up the contacts, or remove it even and see if it works ok (it's just a little float)

I pulled the wire off the sender on the tank and it was still flashing!!

Leave the sender plug disconnected from the sender on the tank, switch off the ignition, and then switch it back on. This should reset the system, and the LED should flash for a few seconds and then stop, (its usual self check).

Tried pulling the wire off and turning the ignition off. then on then off again! Replaced the wire and guess what.......still flashes!!!! Also tried hitting the dash several times!!

Yes........... but the point is.......... does it flash constantly with the connector disconnected from the tank sender after the ignition has been switched off, and then back on again.

The sensor plug must not be disconnected as this will emulate the loss of coolant and start the LED flashing. Two conditions cause the LED to flash, one is the loss of coolant and the other is an excessively high coolant temp. If you are absolutely sure that the header tank is full to the brim then you need to focus on a wiring or connection issue. The most common fault is a poor earth (which fools the system into thinking coolant has been lost.

What year is your van? In the meantime check:-

the earth connections at the earth crown next to the fuse box.

the earth connections under the ignition coil

Thta the multiconnector under the dashboard is fullt pressed home onto the dashboard edge connector



there are other known causes but need to know your vans year of manufacture.
