Odin, when the warning light comes on, does it stay on or flash?

OK so tell us ....we assumed you checked that there is power at the switch, and the fuse was checked, along with the earths.

Have you checked your fuse? It is number 19 in a blade type fuse box.
The earth point on my van is a bolt to the bulkhead under the right hand side of the dash, visible when looking up from the pedal box area.
Do your hazard lights work?
An indicator relay is not expensive, but ackward to test without right gear, I would check the fuse, earth, switch and relay in that order.
I do not know an AE in coventry. I am in worcester from tomorrow midmorning until Friday morning and will have equipment as I am doing wiring on a friends narrowboat.
I realise you might not want to drive vehicle with no indicators.
07968 599882 if I can be of help.

If I understand correctly what you are saying is that if you touch the test lamp probe to the relay fed feed to the indicator switch the test lamp flashes.
In that case the power is getting to the switch and is being interrupted correctly by the flasher relay.
Therefore you have a faulty indicator switch.
Never had one of these apart on a T25 BUT I would suggest it is the switch contacts that are dirty OR the connection where the live feed goes to the switch is the problem.
Easily fixed, hopefully by removing the cover and using WD40 (disconnect battery earth first) another good contact cleaning agent is isopropyl alcohol, used on a cotton bud.
Hope this helps, it should be the case that the worst possible scenario is a indicator switch.
