Errr...Wot's this?

Post by Wolfsburg Willy »

New van with AAZ engine. Checked out the glowplugs to find the harness cut off after #4 glowplug, ho-hum a job to do before winter. Whilst looking at the glowplugs I noticed that #3 injector is much longer than the other three and it has a "collar" with a wire leading from it near the top. The wire fits into moulded clips on the glowplug harness but it has also been cut off at the end of the harness. I've not seen this before - any ideas please? Before you say it, I have replaced the duff vacuum pipe and "clip". :)

It is not an AAZ but either a 1Z, AHU or AFN engine you have there. TDI not TD.

Thanks Russell. I had a sneaking suspicion that this could be the case! Are there any points that I should be wary of with this engine?

First thing to be aware of is if the gearbox hasent had a longer 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th fitted your topend speed wont be very good and the engine will be over revving in the process. Also using to much fuel.
The output of the engine depends on the pump fitted aswell.
If you want to tweak the performance you will need to identify the pump first otherwise the results can be catastrofic for your engine.
