oil leak...pleas help..!

Post by apcomark »

Hi have just got back from a month in the south of france in my westy (wilbur) lhd 1.6td 1987..... got too boulogne sat night and noticed an oil leak under rear engine bay .... used 3 litres of oil limping back home too gloucester....

av looked at engine ...after taking bikes off back and removing holiday stuff bodyboards etc ... and the top does not appear to be showing an oil leak ...climbed undeneath but there is a sump guard of some description so cant see the bottom very well .... am going to remove it this afternoon get a rag and see if i can see where the leak is coming from ....

can anyone give me a pointer as to what too look out for ...my own knowledge of mechanics is very limited and dont really know what too look for ....checked coolant and level is same as always ...doesnt appear to have oil in it as far as i can see...

any help appreciated as you can imagine am skint after month in the south of france .... so am gonna have to diy it if possible....within my comfort zone....yikes...!!!!

If it as bad as you tell us it should be really obvious as to which art of the engine it is coming from...

Best advice I can give to you is wash off the engine with a quality amount of de-greaser (Jizer) use a 50mm paint brush to get to the tight spots, then wash off with warm water...

Run engine once it has been topped up with oil and check for leaks,,,,,,,,if it is bad you should have no problem seeing where the oil is coming from......

It is No good guessing, you are going to have to wash it off to be sure .
