Rev Limiter or something else

Post by CovKid »

Drove to Suffolk from the Midlands last weekend, seemed fine except as soon as I hit around 65, its as if the rev limiter is kicking in - any ideas - other than it actually being the rev limiter?

rev limiter rotor is either 5400 or 4600 rpm, not sure if you can even get the 4600 anymore, not seen one for years..

but 60mph would be less than either wouldnt it ? would in mine, unless you were in 3rd>

Does it do it at the same revs in other gears??

The rev limiter is on the rotor arm.. so check to see if it has one fitted.. a std beetle one fits (non rev limiter) and is about 1/4 the price.. There are some different rev limit rotor arms.. but IIRC the lowest is about 4600rpm, more than enough to reach over 65.. unless you have a low ratio box fitted... (Might be worth seeing what code the gearbox is..

Never done this before though, I think thats my point. Will try red lining in other gears and see what it does. Just thought maybe it had gone sloppy and was kicking in prematurely.

I know it has one fitted, thats what I'm referring to. Can always lock up the centrifugal short to rule it out short term. What with John Austin burnt out at Marks Tey and GSF 20 miles in any direction, think I'll have to bodge for return journey, that is if it is the rotor :D
