Electric Window: How do the motors come out?

Post by turbodavies »

Hi Chaps,

I have a problem with my factory fitted Electric off side window, it don't work :-(.

I have applied 12v directly to the motor and it just goes click, click, click.

I have been fighting with it all night trying to get it out of the door, I have seen some other messages on here that suggest that you can remove the motor without removing the gearbox etc but I can't find any details of how this can be done, has anybody done it because I have failed.

Any help or guidance most welcome at this point.

Andrew.

Andrew

I've done it, :D
Are they origional or aftermarket?
I cant remember details, It took a bit of twisting and manovering, but it came out fairly easy,
Motor and gearbox released from door frame, pulled a little way through the lower cutout in the door. I seem to remember a couple of bolts holding the gearbox to the motor, then gently twisting back and forth to get motor off.

They are original ones I belive, I just can't get the motor to go up inside the door so that the bootom of the motor can be pulled out of cut out. I have also take the bolts out that hold the motor to the gearbox but they don't want to split apart.

Thanks for the input, if I know it can be done then I will try again tonight.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Got the motor out in the end, cleaned it up and it works fine now.

The wiring and relays are shot however and need to be completely replaced. Anybody got a wiring diagram for the window system they can send me?

Kind regards,

Andrew

I sort of fixed mine yesterday.
Took the motor off and it wouldn't run, could turn with pliers. I pulled it into pieces, cleaned rust off rotor, polished the thrust washers, oiled, threw away the gasket. Works OK now, but didn't wind the window.
So, pulled the gear apart, cleaned, used some grease here and there (probably shouldn't). Now, if the engine is running, window goes up, if a bit slow. Better than £160 for a new unit.

Anyone done a repair and can suggest how to get the window going up a bit more sprightly. I'm guessing there is still too much friction in the mech somewhere - not sure if it is everywhere :( or maybe one replacement (like the nylon blocks on the uppy-downy bit that are the bearings on the runner) would sort the whole thing.
