Thermostat now

Post by damongrounsell »

This is right doing my head in
van went to local garage, "The Moose" needed to replace feul injector pipe, job done, and fix the coolent leak
anyway the leak seems worse and now and the temperature never gets up to normal, Half way, as it used to, and the coolent needs topping up every 100 miles since the flashing light pops, is the thermostat now bust or is there an air blockage that some how means the engine stays cool ( I don't think so) and it still leaks, I have no Idea and don't really respect the garage man at the moment, please help

get a new darlek cap and bleed it as per the wiki or various recent posts below. If it's losing water find out where, and if it isn't and doesn't get up to temp then tstat stuck open, but I bet it's the pressure cap and loss is via top up tank.

Well one of the pipes was leaking, found out which one by putting the bike pump on the darlek and filling with air, the water bubbled out of the pipe, tightened the circlip and bobs your uncle no water loss, now the only problem is it still runs cool, I guess the thermostat is stcuk open, so I need to replace it.

I've looked on vag cat, can't find out which one is required for jx engine, looked for about 20mins until my eyes went wobbly.
Just kampers seems to sell two, the j10486 and the j10398, how do i know which fits my 1.6 td

also since the haynes manual only does water cooled petrols and not diesels are there any good manuals for the jx engines.

sorry lots of requests but the help I've recieved so far has been invaluable and thus my hopes are high.

Hi

I have just bought a manual that covers VW Transporters for the 16d 16td and 17 litre engines from just Kampers.
It cost about £15.00 with postage, and arrived within a couple of days
