New electric question

hi there everyone another electric question while away last week the RCD tripped while hooked up and now wont go back on if you push it up it just flicks straight back down!! any ideas blown fuse somewhere maybe!!! any help would be great thanks phil

Not a blown fuse but a fault somewhere after the RCD. Try disconnecting items one by one that are connected and try to isolate the problem that way. Otherwise it could be a wiring fault or a fault with the RCD itself but thats not very likely (although not impossible!)

my initial reaction was as above, and you do need to check for something that is triping it. I would think about what happened whern it tripped, had you just plugged something in? if so is it still plugged in?
if not then check the wiring behind the rcd.

also, i seem to remember having an rcd unit where u had to turn off the main fuse to reset the individual rcd's also there way be a reset button you have to press first.

Some RCD's are three position. 'ON', 'OFF' and 'TRIP'. ON is up, OFF is down and TRIP is in the centre. These RCD's trip to the centre position and will not stay in the ON position until they have been manually pushed to the OFF position first so push it down to OFF and then try pushing up to ON.

Failing that, you may have a fault on some piece of equipment so switch the (generally two) bog standard style circuit breakers off and try resetting it then. If it resets, switch the circuit breakers back on and if it trips, the one that causes it to trip will be obvious and that's the circuit with the fault on it.

thanks i'll keep you posted if and when i get it sorted suspect it maybe be fridge!? its just in the off position now and wont stay up! thanks for all the help
