sorry syncro suspension again

Post by ..lee.. »

ok after nearly 1000 miles fully loaded with the family i`ve come to the conclusion i need to do something with the suspension on my 16". i know the front springs have sagged and i`ve fitted spacers to lift it to about std height but i`m getting lots of dive and it feels wollowy when loaded.

anyone been through this recently i`m thinking siekels, go westy springs or possibley a john wessels kit but unsure about the shocks to use with the spring only kits.

whats new on the market. looked in to it a while back but couldn`t get a conclusion.

whats your opinions and experiances as i dont want to buy cheap and buy twice if you know what mean.

thanks lee.

Your cheapest effective option is this https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=56606" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or two of these, http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have just been through the new springs dilemma and looked at the Gowesty ones but the shipping and import duty double the price of the listed one :shock: If you buy the Brickwerks ones and you still wanted to use the spacers i guess you could get some of these too, http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but i guess a weighty camper will keep the van down anyway.

I have a set of thebrickwerks springs on order now as it goes.

you normally get a nice big bill from the nice excise people......a couple of weeks after you get the parts they can be "gifted" but its not legal, classed as evassion :ok

There is no way out of it.
Expect to pay from 10% if very luckey up to 27% in duties.(more than not)
If it comes through the Royal Mail you will have to pay before the goods are released.
But if you buy within the EEC there are no duties.

ok thanks guys nice to know.

russel do you still favour siekels for a heavy westy and will the std shocks be up to controlling them.

sorting the front diff atm then its only suspension, brakes and engine and its finished......................NOT..........

well i`ve spoken with raven hydrolics who by the way was very informative and air maywell be an option full set including baxters shocks probally about £1500 which comes in at about double what gaz could do a set of custom builds for.

would be nice to be able to drive both systems first. saying that i guess air systems have far more potential to fail than a covential system so for a camper thats intended to travel maybe air is not such a good idea.

as if my brain isn`t fried enough. lee.

Now you see, you are confusing yourself with talk of air suspension. Get a set of Seikels and decent shocks from Syncro Services and away you go

its quite normall for me to go around in circles for a while when it comes to spending money. :wink: .

syncro services dont seem to do front and rear yet, web page says front are due but no prices also couldn`t see siekels listed.

jager lists the full set but at just over £1000 i`m wandering it would be worth waiting for a custom set to be built for 3/4 of the price plus i`d rather buy from the uk partly due to loyalty and partly due to not being familier with buying from abroad.

it seems you can spend anywhere between £750 and £1500 for suspension its just finding out whats best for us and our needs.

cheers for the imput lee.

I think that Ray has just fitted a set of new springs, possibly baxters??? would be good to hear an update.

I still think that a seikel spring will give a bone shaker performance off road, and that the standard set up would be fine, if only you could go compare.com, when you are talking about 500 to over 1000 pounds it's a real tuff decision to make. There is no doubt that they should go around corners on road better.

My nearly collapsed suspension still gives a very compliant ride off road, hardly ever lifts a wheel. Keeps the vehicle very flat as there is still a great deal of articulation.

I know it's only 10 inch's but it felt a lot more.

I have driven probably some of the most bone shaking roads in the world for days on end with seikles and cant praise them enough. The trick is tyre preshure.Myself and Jake were very comfatable but a certain 3rd person left his preshures to high and got a bit of a shake down for 3 days until he relised.
