As per GTi mad man says, i just had a look at mine and the metal plate should be pre drilled as should the bar with captive bolts :)

In normal circumstances if the stays are removed at the top, the glovebox drops down like a big flap, emptying all the assorted crap on to the floor (including some vital screws from something you took apart and haven't refitted yet), down the step and straight down the drain you've inadvertently parked next to (I've done that). Perhaps you're missing the hinge?

if it's a left hooker that didn't have a glovebox from the factory you'll need a lhd dash with the fitting for glovebox on, it's not on the dash when glovebox not fitted, there's an extra tang of metal spot welded on, and that's what the locking bracket fixes to, the firewall will have the captive nuts for the hinge plate though I think.
All rhd had glovebox.

Hello
Would someone be so kind as to post a picture of the metal bracket referred to here. I have the floppy glovebox so well described in previous post and would like to fashion a new bracket please.
thanks again,
Cat
