right i've started to replace the "split charging wiring"
however, the current wiring confuses me and not being one for just ripping it out, any ideas what it could be doing if anything???
30 - leisure battery +ve
87 - crank battery -ve (inline fuse)???
85 - crank battery -ve
86 - cable disappears off into the van somewhere which would mean ripping out the interior to find out where it goes
wouldthis actually do anything? or is it a feed from the 240v hook up?? not particulary heavy duty cable??
any ideas or do i just take it out as it wouldn't do anything?

it should be
30 - main battery +ve via fuse at near to main battery
87 - leisure battery +ve
85 - alternator blue wire via manual switch to disable split charging in winter to give main battery all charge
86 - chassis neg
The size of some of the wiring of the leisure battery is quite important. The wires associated with the COIL of the relay on terminals 85 and 86 is not critical, 0.75 mm sq is quite sufficient for mechanical strength. However the wiring associated with the main charging path to terminals 30 and 87 needs to be a thick as one can sensibly use. 10mm sq is not unusual, in some applications where the battery is some way away from the alternator even thicker. Similarly for the leisure battery negative cable.
As always, use quality fuses chosen to protect the size of cables you are using

Re: for the wiring guru's
i have a raw components kit to put back in with all the correct cabling
but i was wondering if the current set up did anything as it doesn't make any sense to me, least of all as a split charge set up
any ideas???
