Interior Light wiring to Aux Battery

Post by JW1 »

Can anyone give me a hint where the details are for the mod to power the internal lights to the Aux battery?

Here's how it's done on a westy. Not sure if same applies to others.

Hi
Just done mine and its really easy (Westy model) with 2 batteries under seats!
Step 1 remove fuse 3 (red one)
Step 2 run a positive feed from leisure battery to the fuse box and attach a standard spade connector to the end (you can put a 10a inline fuse in this wire if you so require)
Step 3 feed the above wire through the fuse box and plug the spade connector into the bottom fuse connection (where the fuse was removed)
Step 4 - Thats it ure done !!!

With the added bonus that if you flat your leisure battery, just pull out the spade connector and replace the 10a fuse and you have power again via the main battery--- Best of both worlds!!! :ok

Ps the above tweek changes the internal lights, radio and ciggie lighter to leisure battery

FURTHER UPGRADE!!!!

How about being able to switch from Leisure battery to main battery? Its very easy with the addition of a 3 way switch.

If anyone is interested pm me or reply and i will post the very easy solution

I have posted elsewhere but there seems to be people on this thread that know what they are doing :D

I ran a wire from leisure battery to fusebox to a 3 way switch. I then ran wires from main battery and stereo so I could switch between both which worked fine. I later removed interior light cable and ran this to the spare terminals on the 3 way switch and everything seemed to work fine, being able to switch between the 2 batteries for both.

However........on the way back from vanfest i noticed that when you switch the headlights on the dashboard lights didnt work and the main beam led stops working. With the ignition key off, the dashboard lights and main beam led work fine but go out as soon as you turn the key.

please help.......... :?

Darren, I will have to have a look again what I did.

From memory, i initially ran a fused wire from leisure battery to a 3 way switch. I then ran a wire from the main battery circuit to the same switch and the 3rd wire to the stereo. The switch is a ON-ON with 3 connectors.

I then removed the interior lights wire from fusebox and extended this to the switch and I think I then tapped off wires from the other 2 as the switch has a total of 6 connectors so you can run 2 sources.

I think there are wires still connected to the other side of the fuse and i think the fuse is still in there..... :?

The interior lights in my westie go through fuse 8. Is this the same procedure?

Hi, After having a fiddle I have found that the only things fuse 8 is powering is the rear interior lights and alarm. This seems to be powered from a loop from fuse 7. If I snip the loop and run a cable from the leisure battery to fuse 8 will this work?

why are they in fuse 7 and 8? has someone fiddled with the wiring?

They should run through 3 which powers int lights, radio and ciggie lighter

It looks original. Main feed from battery feeds in on 7 and then loops to fuse 8 to power rear interior lights.

It's on a 1985 westfalia club joker if that makes any difference.

Darren - would be interested in the 3 way switch idea. Not changed or purchased anything so far so any instructions would be great! :D
