Thinking about getting a winch.

Post by jed the spread »

So what size should i be looking at? Its the pulling weight i guess that i need, and its going on some bullbars that are very well fastened to the van. The flat mounting plate over shoots the front bumper so i shouldnt have to cut away any of the van. It looks like it has had one on before.

I have had a look on the bay'o'flees but dont really know what i am looking for really, this one maybe? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-WINCH-12 ... 703wt_1394" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would say its a bit of overkill with 12500 lbs pull but at that price its a steal.

We got a 15000lbs on ours
Powered from a separate battery (split charged), with an isolator and a red warning light on the dash.
Syncropete and I have the same winch and Pete''s has done a bucket load of site work and we have done a load of dead pulls. (Clive comes to memory now)

Word to the wise if it's remote control, ditch the remote control and isolate it as the mobile phone bands etc can set the remote off on the winch.

Ours £200 delivered from Germany, the one your looking at - not a bad price.

Umm, your not planning on getting one for the end of the month, are you?
Sharon, may be available to pull you out of the "pooh"!

Have a gander on this guys site, we certainly havent had any problems with the champion winch he sold us for our suzuki jeep and its worked alot harder than most of the winches on the Northwest 4x4 club cars..its definately out lasted the super winches fitted to some of the other cars....... :ok

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having been in touch with the chaps from winch solutions a few times over the past couple of weeks concerning the purchase of a nice new Plasma rope and ali fairlead and some other bits and bobs and lots of talking about my superwinch motor which appears to have expired i can't sing the praises of these guys highly enough. They really know their stuff and are so helpful it's untrue. The site is currently undergoing a major overhaul and as soon as it's completed they're sending me a logo for the links page, if anyone needs anything in the winch/accesory front i strongly urge you to give them a bell as they're local (one of the chaps lives round the corner from me and drops the stuff off free of charge on his way home same day... now how's that for service!!) and the prices are spot on with free next-day delivery on all winches. Check them out at http://www.winchsolutions.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... you know it makes sence

Dont think your bull bar will be anywhere near strong enough to mount it on though... gonna need a nice big high amp battery and wiring too..

It does look a bit small compared to normal winch bumpers they have on landies.

I'd think about giving it some extra strength - or just sell it and get a proper bumper :D

More toys to play with Jed - your going to love it mate. Dont forget to buy the proper kit to attach the winch to trees etc - the amount of toys out there is endless!

The bull bar won't do it, it will be ripped off first time easily.
The winch needs to be secured to front cross member, all of it, the bit you can see and the bit you can't,
really, right the way back to the rad housing otherwise it just sticks out to far.

Then when you fit it, hide those solenoids (behind headlights) and fit manual operating socket away from danger (we re-routed ours to inside now).

Don't forget to isolate it, aswell.
