heater matrix input/output?

Post by nrxx »

Hi all

I've got a problem that doesn't seem to be rare from reading previous threads (1987 1.9 DG). Basically I can't shut off the hot air from the heater. I've traced the pipework from the splitter pipe connected to the R cylinder and the valve was on this pipe, however, it's upside down and connected to the wrong side of the matrix according to the Haynes manual. Problem is, is the manual diagram right? it shows the feed coming from R cylinder to the L pipe into the matrix (looking up from underneath, feet out the front!). Only problem is, the only photo I can find doesn't show the valve and I can't be sure which side to connect to. Any help VERY gratefully recieved!!!

Nick I can't help with where the water leaves the engine but I know from experience that the heater control valve needs to be on the inlet side of the matrix, otherwise you will have hot feet all the time, like I did, because my pipes at the front had been mixed up. The other option is the vavle may be broken/ stuck open?

Thanks CycloneMike

My problem is, I'm not sure which pipe is the inlet, L or R, when viewed from underneath. Anyone?
:D
