here is what i learned

Post by Westy End »

from my first holiday (in france) in the van.
  • there is a campsite at almost every junction in france
t3s have a tendancy towards each other in campsites
at 90kph the road is always open in front of you (maybe not behind!)
the rear view mirror is only for watching the kids fighting in the back
or the rear view mirror is only for knocking your head against when returning to the drivers seat from the back of the van
breakdown insurance was too expensive for crap cover and it turned out i didnt need it
i still dont know how the heater controls work but i flail them around until my feet arent burning
a tinted windscreen would be nice
left hand drive is fine - I just forget to release the handbrake (i thought we were going slowly.....)
lpg tanks for burners/fridges are fine on the Chunnel - you just have to turn them off
if you turn up early at the chunnel they let you on the earlier train if there is room
thank god i fixed the fag lighter as it powered the dvd player (see point 4)
in a westy you crack your head open less if you sleep with your head to the front of the van
    thats not first gear.........grind.....that is
the mileometer will surprise you by working on the way to the beach and then not on the way back
if i keep the van down here it will rust more slowly
kids in the back when not fighting are good at saying "dont drive off-the roof is open/is the fridge supposed to be ticking/i can smell gas etc
a baguette fits nicely behind the stowed table
a packet of cereal fits nicely in the cupboard under the stowed table
boxes of wine fit nicely everywhere :D

i will be doing it all again shortly but this time in the brecon beacons - we will see how i cope in the wet.....
