3 Way charging HELP NEEDED

Post by Blue Meanies »

Now fed up with trying to sort this out myself so anyone fairly local know anything about charging a leisure battery from mains or from the engine?
Tried what I think to be all possibles but cant seem to charge my leisure battery via 240v hook up, or seperate battery charger or from engine whilst on the move so does anyone know a good auto electrician that knows the black magic that is needed to make these things work properly?
Think some where down the line the original(amateur) instal has gone wrong (assuming it was ever right!)

All ideas welcome.

ps camperfan thanks for your advice kept our holiday alive!

That circuit is so easy to fit. You just need a relay and the cables to suit. Chickenkoop and I fitted our own using that diagram.

In fact the only real tricky bit is finding conectors that can take the guage of wire you use - particularly battery cable.

If you have a 2 or 3 way fridge, then you may find that there is already a separate wire coming from the alternator, to a relay, mounted somewhere near your fridge, which switches the relay to power the fridge from battery when engine is running. Although you may also find that there is a switch on the wire and you'll need to tap into the switch terminal which is on the alternator side. You can use this as the purple wire in the diagram. Don't try to use the fridge relay, because you won't be able to use it for the split charger or combine the 2 circuits in any useful way.
