It is an electrolux three way one.Just wondered if i should be able to hear it working when it is switched on or are they silent. many thanks paul

Welcome
Hi and welcome
Most fridges are silent - they rely on gas/liquid expansion to circulate as a result of a small heat source - a gas flame or electric element - have a look at this web page for more info

Hello and welcome.....agreed fridges are normaly silent.
on gas there will be an auto ignition that will click...click...click upon switching to "on" or "1"you must push and hold in the gas temp control , usually marked with a lightening bolt!.
12V will only be on when the engine is running..sometimes there are two switches for this , on the fridge and on the control panel
mains will be on when switch is at "0"
