As a mechanical newbie the might seem an silly question.
I'm currently on the road on a long Uk tour in my 1.7 diesel hightop (I know lucky me!). I had a full service before we left but now I'm thinking I need to top up the oil ( about halfway between the 2 marks on the dipstick when cold)
what oil should I buy?
More importantly, we've done about 3000 miles since the service now so I know I should be thinking about changing the oil and filters again- can anyone recommend a good garage in the morecambe or lake district area, or can I just take it to any old kwik fit garage for this do you think? Will an oil chage be enouch or should I really be doing another full service again?
Any help is gratefully received
thanks ant

Re: Oil change question
VW service intervals on the 1.7D were 6,000 miles.
If you are really concerned and don't want to let it go this long, then pick up a gallon a diesel oil from any motorist shop (look for 15W/40 but I recomment it be dedicated DIESEL) something like Castrol GTD or similar. Take the van to any fast fit and they will change it for you for a small fee.
Personally I wouldn't even bother with a new filter after only 3,000miles, but thats up to you.
The oil will still look BLACK 5 minutes after the change.
