1.6 tdi loss of power

Post by JC »

just got back from a 6o mile round trip on the motorway and during the return journey the engine suddenly lost power not being capable of doing more than 2200 revs in fifth gear. Any slight incline slowed the van considerably and occasionally there was a slight misfire? . There was no evidence of smoke that I could see in the mirror. The engine ticks over OK and seems to be smooth enough when not pulling. Does anyone have any idea where I should start looking? Any suggestions would be most helpful as I am supposed to be taking it to France in two weeks time.

Thanks to those who responded - the answer was the rubber priming pump which had been fitted by a previous owner had a small split which was allowing air into the fuel line.
