sailsbury weekend?

Post by axeman »

hi there
i am trying to sort out a weekend away greenlaning in and around the sailsbury plains may be for the weekend, this is an open invertation to any one that is intrested in coming along, i went there a couple of years ago on my motor bike and thought that the lanes sceemed endless. the dates i have got in mind are the 29th and 30th of august. so far there are a couple of straing rovers and anouther syncro (jed). if there is a group we could may be find a local camp site and make a proper weekend of it. any advice of local lanes would be very helpfull. the plan at the moment would be to meet at stone henge or a local service sation and set out from there.

thanks neil

A few years ago I did a New Year's Day bike ride around the Plain, it's not flat!

OK chaps and chapesses, thanks to an 80-90 member called Lance who lives in the area and has found a great looking campsite (thanks Lance) and this could be the start of a good weekend. This is the suggested campsite for those interested http://www.stonehengetouringpark.com/photo.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Neil got an os map of the area for his birthday so after our greenlaning session in the morning we will go through a few routes, (one says DANGER  ) and i am sure Doug has browsed over his map knowing Doug  so dont be shy now if your interested.

Sounds good.
When we were in Devon we bumped into a landie owner who told us about the salisbury lanes and identified some of them on the maps for us. When we've recovered from Devon I'll fire the laptop up and see where they are.
Might be a nice trip for the blue one.

The ones he showed us were the two drove tracks that head west from Salisbury to Shaftesbury - I've cycled them - there are interesting but not very challenging as they follow the ridges either side of the Chalk valley.

There are indeed loads and loads, its got to be the biggest concentration of byways i have ever seen  Like Doug says they might not be the most challenging of lanes but different being so open and they do seem to go on for miles and miles so your new van wont get wrecked Pete  . Neil remind me to put google tool bar on your pc when i am round yours next

Hi Neil, I'd be up for this as well. If the lanes are fairly non-scratchy I might bring the camper.

I'm very tempted indeed.
I wonder if I can persuade Mrs H what a great wedding anniversary treat this would be :D
My only concern would be that because it's Bank Hol weekend, a lot of campsites might be full???!!
