T25 Earth Straps

Post by PoloSi »

Trying to cure the electrics and generally keep them running smooth, being 30 years old I don't place much trust in them.

Starting from the bottom and going to replace all earth straps in the vehicle, does anyone know exactly where all the earth points are? I can think of the battery and the gearbox to chassis and alternator to chassis, is there any more?

Secondly does anyone know where the best place to get good quality, not mega expensive flat braid or pre cut straps from?

Sorry Simon, can't help you with sourcinf a supplier but thought I would comment:
The earth straps as you put it are the main ones that ensure the high curent load can get pass without high resistance to the vehicle body and then to the engine/gearbox. These earth straps effectively make the whole metal body and drive chain of the vehicle a negative circuit to ALL the electrical consumers on the vehicle (negative earth system)
What you may not have realised is there are many dozens of smaller earth connections dotted around the vehicle completing circuits on everything from the back lights to the wipers. It is these smaller, often MULTIPLE earthing point that can often be at fault in the circuit.
The large earth spider on the N/S/F A post for instance (inside near the fuse box)
