I have currently got the engine out of my van and all the tin ware is off. What purpose do they serve, should I put them back on, and if so can I paint them and should I be using heat resistant paint. oh yes and am I ok to get them sand blasted before painting.

hi i'm new to this as of today. i have just bought my first van and although i am experienced in mechcs. i would appreciate help by people who have the knowledge and experience. My van is a 1981 2ltr Aircooled (CU) engine, i am stripping the engine at the mo and am dealing with these tin plate heatshield thingy me bobs. My question is the same do they need to be done in heat resistant paint or could i use Hammerite Smoothrite which i have already got in, or would it blister. David

Smoothrite seems to be good enough - has worked for me and others have said the same.
