So what does that do?

Post by evilgoat »

Was looking under my 1.9DG 1990 the other day and noticed that there is 2 funny flexihoses that runs from the exhaust elbow on the front off side of the exhaust up into the airbox area above the wheelarch.

Then a couple of days later I noticed that the hose had fallen off due to a loose jubilee clip.

There seemed to be no change in how the van runs, starts, sounds etc. There seems to be no mention of these in the Haynes and some exhaust systems on Justkampers don't have them.

So what are they? Should I be bothered that they are not connected?

just hot air for the induction system but since you are in UK and not Siberia forget it, most peeps remove the whole lot anyway as the shroud rusts and rattles.... :D

So it just runs hot air past the exhaust to warm it up?

I take it the shroud is just welded onto the outside of the exhaust pipe to pass the air through, as mine seems a bit loose.

Yep, just hot air for winter diverted to the air induction system. Shroud comes loose and rattles thats why they get removed. I run my van all year round winter and summer and starts/runs fine without it. I was advised when joining the club to whip it off, it didn't need much whipping either..........fell off with a good tug!

This shroud is the part which makes the late 1.9DG system more expensive than a 2.1DJ system which is otherwise identical (and a fair bit cheaper  )

If you happen to spend the winter in Helsinki then please ignore the above :D
