Devon August Weekend (31st July ~ 2nd August)

Post by HarryMann »

Failing confirmation about this weekend from CJ, a number of us plan to go to Postwood Gardens campsite (Kentisbreare/Cullompton) anyway.

Please let us know here if you are interested in coming along.

Hopefully CJ, Kat, Freddie & Fern will be able to make it too, so to maintain the tradition of this excellent Syncro meet we should make it happen again and failing any new routes, drive an assortment from previous years (mainly fluffy ones, in deference to CJ's naming convention :) )

As some will know, just a drive up through Exmoor itself on roads is a wonderful experience, so we could pencil that in for the Sunday, as a relaxed sightseeing tour for those staying on for the Sunday night. there really are some lovely remote and ancient spots up there, just waiting for a few campers to pull over, brew-up and partake of a cream tea somewhere :ok

Rough itinerary:
Thurs - arrive if desired
Friday - arrive
Friday evening - Dine at campsite (we are currently trying to plan something special, if so details later)
Saturmon - Others arrive early
Saturday - Drive out on known routes/lanes/tracks - return circa 6-00pm
Satureve - (Optional) Walk to Kentisbeare Inn, beer/food etc, walk back, resume drinking and stargazing tradition :)
Sunday - Free morning. After-noon, drive out to Exmoor and some easy lanes and beauty spots. (pre-planned)
Suneve - More beer, feed yourselves, homegoers depart
Monday - Stayovers welcome (plenty of local places to go see)

Costs: Jackie charges per unit per night (all included) of £10 now, but I think there might be a concession for us Syncronauts of maybe £2/night. Will check.

For those who've not been before, it's a nice sheltered campsite with excellent toilet block and hot showers that'll blow you away if you're not careful

Sounds good Clive, should be up for that. Know some nice places on Exmoor suitable for a group parking, relaxing by the river.

Great Simon,

Mark & Lynda showed us a lovely and very ancient spot there a while ago, with a couple of fording splashes nearby - and we also like the cream teas at the Valley of the Rocks (after a quick scramble up to burn a few calories), yum yum!

Between us, we hopefully can plan a really good afternoon's touring around, without any tight deadlines to be anywhere particular, at anytime 8)

What was the book? :)

Yes, I will be there minus Julia for a change as she is doing a 26 mile moonwalk around Plymouth, As I have not heard from you Clive I presume you do not need me to check out the proposed route.
Look foward to seeing all that can make it :ok
