Fitting EMPI/Brosal carbs to 2L Aircooled T25

Post by vangough »

Hi Folks,

I have just fitted the above carbs (with chokes) to my 1982 T25. I am posting this for two reasons ~ one is, I need some advice and the second is, that I can provide a handy tip for those thinking of doing the same. I'll start with the handy tip. The carb kit comes with EMPI manifolds and I spent half a day trying to fit them. The problem is getting the nuts onto the bottom two studs. It's IMPOSSIBLE ! The solution is to remove the bottom two studs and replace them with ALLEN headed bolts of the same length.

I have now fitted the carbs (as per the instructions) but upon starting the engine, cannot get it to idle. It revs to the point where it sounds like it is going to explode.

The instructions are not clear about what to do with the various vacuum pipes, breathers and, most importantly, wiring connections.
Has anyone else had this problem ?

Any advice would be most welcome.

Vangough.

I don't have any direct experience with these carbs but I'm sure that I have read that they need an extra spring on the linkage to return the butterflys to tickover. First port of call for me would be to check this. I had a similar problem with my dellorto carbs.
Apart from tickover, what is the performance like? Have they been jetted to work on a 2.0 engine?
There's plenty of information about these carbs on the volkszone forum, good and bad.
Good luck.
