Oil & Filter

I am planning on dropping the oil & changing the filter on my van as I recon the garage that did the head will have just put in whatever oil they had handy, I want to be sure as occasionally the red oil light flickers on when the engine gets really warm.
Which oil is best for 16 jx td & where do you get your filters from?

VW Quantum RED 15W/40 Turbo Diesel mineral based oil and a good quality Mann/Bosch or similar original brand oil filter. The thing that worries me here though is, the red light shouldn't flicker even when a thinner oil is being used. OK...a thicker oil will bring the pressure up a bit but the light coming on suggests than the hot idle oil pressure is pretty borderline and the thicker oil will only mask this for a time. Obviously the next step would be to check the oil pressure properly with a gauge againsts VW spec.

Hi Like Martin said get the the pressures checked, Jx oil pressure problems are known with this engine, the same problem with my sons, ended with new engine being fitted.
