LED Striplighting

Has anyone successfully put into their vans LED strip lights to replace the flourescent tube? I've been looking around and have found the dome round type but am concerned the light will be too centralized on my Westy type conversion. The only place I can see to put those round ones in is at the back under the built in top cupboard. However I feel the light could be too much at the back. I have flourescent tube over the sink and would prefer to replace it with a strip led. The reason... increase light and reduce battery use. When we stop its often for a week and no where near power. I'd appreciate any suggestions. I've been looking around but havn't come to any conclusions yet. Thanks in advance Dubwana

ikea used to sell strips of LE\d lighting for backlighting kitchens, dioder lights they called them,
come with a 240-12v transformer that you can throw away and just use the strips, they should fit inside the westy lights, behind the defuser once you have removed the invertor and circuit board, just leaving the switch .
i have the round version of them in my van and they draw very little compaired to the flouescent tubes, and less than the cheap "boy racer" led strip available on ebay and in halfrauds..... but cost more.....

And adding to that question. I'm guessing you have those nice round lights with 12 or so diodes on them. How do you find the directional aspect of the light? Where did you mount them? Idon't want to have to add wires accross the roof so want to make it as simple as possible.

It's the 240v transformer that's AC - it transforms to 12v DC. LEDs only work on direct current, as far as I know.

I have the round versions of Ikea Dioders. Look in my Garage for photo.
There are two on the bulkhead above the kitchen, two above the cab arch (over swivel front seat), three over main seat, and one over bed head (they come in packs of four, so that is two sets).
The light is fairly well diffused, as the LEDs are set in frosted plastic, so give a reasonably well spread light.
They are not super-bright, but OK for reading a book at night time, and obvisouly very low current draw.

They also look quite nice (much nicer than fluorescents)

like the man said, they are set behind opeaque (sp) lense, so well spread light range.

i have one directly over the sink, pointing down, one directly over the hob, again pointing down, and one to the rear of the sliding door on the wall where it joins the roof, sort of at that 45 degree angle there, which gives more than enough for reading, making the bed up, searching for stuff in the wardrobe ect. The forth one will in time be in the centre of the cab roof, between the two front seats..... when i get round toit.

i also have low level blue led lights above the sink, hob, sliding door and on the floor for when the white ones are too bright , 3 single white giant leds in the centre of the main roof, just infront of the vent which light the whole floor space and front of the bed , and another 6 of these giant whie leds mounted shining out of the sliding door to illuminate the ground outside the van when the door opens.

all of the lockers , food cupboard and fridge also have leds in them to assist in darktime food hunting and general searching in the dark spots.

If I were to install two sets of Ikea dioders like High peaker could I wire them into my unused aux switch on my cp400 zig unit? it has a 10amp fuse and the dioders are rated at 8w a set
