Advice please on a engine for my crewwy

Post by dickspanner »

I have just bought a Crewcab and am wondering what engine to install. I have several engines in my lockup including 2 Ford V6 motors, 2.8 and 3.0litre, a rover 3.5V8, 2 litre pinto and a 1.9 diesel (with full conversion kit to fit crewwy). I am very competant at mechanics and welding etc so balmy conversions are a option.

End use of Crewwy, to and from work daily, 25miles round trip, surfing in Wales, Snow boarding in Scotland, mountain biking in Lakes and building house in South of France.

As you can see the vehicle will be pounding the black stuff and sometimes heavily loaded.

Can someone give a quick bit of advice on which donkey and why? Open to other suggestions as I have a mate in the breakers industry and he could get hold of an other car for me to use as donor. (Want some tricky bits inside as well)

Cheers, hope its not too open a question!

Dickspanner.

If it leaves marks in the road, you have gone a tad to low.

Next numpty question.

On parts alone, do you have a ball park figure what it should cost for the conversion parts.

Going looking at a 2.9i scorpio cosworth 24v tonight see if it is worth it for the donkey and leather electric seats.

I know the petrolhead in me suggests the Ford bigblock 400CID, but that is reserved for my Cobra Kit.

The 2.9i 24v Cossy motor out of the Scorpio was a true wooden legged donkey and the leather was tatty, was not even worth giving £10 for but it did look good with the big cosworth 24v on the top. dreeewwwwwwl

Has anybody installed one of these motors in a T25 before and if so did you rate the work and cost to achieve the power and what is/was the mpg like as there are lots of these scorpios knocking about for half decent money.

And again does anybody know what kind of money I would be shelling out in parts to stick this motor in, just a ball park figure!

Cheers in advance.

Little man is on my sholder jumping up and down shouting 'stay with the diesel you fool'.

V6 2.9i 24 valve Cosworth power. mmmmmmmm. nice.

Cossie V6's come up from about £200 upwards. the Rover V8 won't fit in the engine bay, even with a kennedy engineering kit as the water pump will stick through where the engine lid closes... unelss you want to move the gearbox forwards...
I'd go with the Cossie V6.

.. and they thought it wouldn't fit!!

Guys still rate the 1.9 turbo diesel from Seat but I like cossy option.

Still got a couple of months to think about it.

Anybody got Kennedy Engineers number as I will ask about cost to stick the cossy motor in crewwy in reltion to parts etc, do all the work myself., unless another recommended suplier of conversion parts someone can recommend.

Need a list of all components I will need (if the ford V6 is used, 192bhp compared to 110bhp) so these guys will prob know and have prices etc.
I am still reading and learning about the crewwy as never had one before and just bought manuals on CD off eblag.

Yup, can be done, seen a couple of em, someone on here has one he imported from Germany. Wouldn't mind a couple of high res piccies from within the engine compartment and underneath etc just for reference.

I have mailed Kennedy for prices etc and will place an order if the price is right.

I have now got a V6 injection 24v Cossy motor, 192bhp. Very nice. and the lovely Cosworth embelium on the top finishes it off. Drewll.

Just gotta sort out the rest of the stuff I need, I will do a comprehensive photo journal of the install etc.

only person I know who has a ford engine in their van is Dazza, but he bought his crewcab with it already installed. I think starspider might have done the conversion, ask them.

I think I am going to go down the boring route and put the 1.9 turbo diesel in the crewwy. Bit pants, but going to be doing high milage in it and my current truck only does 220miles to 60quid in fuel, need something a bit better. Anybody got 1.9turbo and can report average mpg they get?

Cossy motor now going elsewhere me thinks......Shame.

Full blown racing mini will be on road next week for sale so can have a blat around in that before I sell it and I have always got my 6.5litre V8 for my next project, will buy shares in texeco first though

Thanks for all the advice guys, will still do a photo board of putting the diesel and crewwy update, gotta sell the mini first.

Scoobydoo, nice motor, just rude on purchase price and running costs, love the sound of the flat four, almost as nice as the duccatis on the race tracks.

Nice to hear someone remembers the series, can't get hold of it for love nor money. If you know anybody with a copy. oh bi'jesus you would make me a happy man.

The van on ebay is very nice, didn't get any bids though.

Gonna fly, catch you guys later
