temp gauge

Post by rubyvan »

HI
Can anyone tell me what is the normal position for the temp gauge needle does it tend to differ in hot weather or should it stay in the same position what ever that is!! The engine is a 1.6 td jx
I am a bit mystified as we have replaced the thermostat and it is opening but the needle is just over 3/4
Would it matter if we took out the thermostat
Cheers
Steve

Running without a thermostat isn't advisable. Gauge needle should sit slightly left of the LED under normal conditions but the gauge has a permitted tolerance of + or - one needle width. Sounds more like you have a coolant issue that needs investigating. I run mine with an 82 degree stat and have done so for two years. Mine sits left of the LED at all times irrespective of driving conditions. With the 88 it would meander slightly past the led in traffic but never beyond that. See what other peeps say as I can only relate to mine.

i run mine without the thermostat as my temp gauge was 3/4 along the gauge it now sits at half way all the time.

Not to say that i will help with your problem though.

I had gone through all the other parts first pipewrok/flushed the system changed the water pump even had a new radiator.
