sliding door lock problem urgent

hi all
While trying to take the door handle off the sliding door on my van i managed to wreck the bolt that holds it in. its in tight in at the mo but i need to get it off as the lock opens with any key :( i have a replacement ready to fit.
so i need to know how i can get it off without doing anymore damage thanks in advance for any help

As a temporary measure find something that will fit in the hole to prevent the latch button from moving up into the un-locked position (so it can't be opened with any key/screw driver WHY)

A far as the butcherd bolt is concerned either grind or chisel the old one off,,,,,,,,,obviously once you have found a replacement for the new handle.
