Electric window in my 1990 Trident

Post by T25-Folk »

Hello

I'm new on here and also new to type 25's, having moved on from bay windows. I've just bought a 1990 Trident Auto-sleeper which I'm loving. :D The problem I have is the passenger window will not open. I've taken the door panel off and cleaned up the contacts on the switch and now when I press the button I get a click from the motor but the window refuses to open. When I operate the button on the drivers door the same happens just a click noise. Do you think the motor is faulty and are they easy to strip down and repair?

What a great site this is, I'm sure I'll be using it a lot especially to ask questions like this one.

Thanks Mark

Sounds like the motor is goosed, one way to prove it is take the motor off the working side and try that, Oh and by the way, welcome on board.

Would doubt that they are handed or easily repairable.

Are they OE fitment or after market :?:

They are original fitment. They have a vw logo on them.

I should of fixed the window before I covered everything in waxoil. It seemed like a good idea while I had the door panel off. Doh!

Hi
Here is a wiring diagram for the OE windows. Check the earths (probably near fusebox)
The motors can be removed and tested without the gearbox and winding mechinisim.
It is also possible to wind the mechinisim by hand (well spanner) once the motor is out.

Hi

I'll check the earth. Once I get the motor out how do I go about repairing it? Is it something I could do myself or leave it to the professionals? Would it be cheaper to buy a new motor from VW?

Are quarter opening windows available if all else fails?
