VDO Oil Gauges

Post by High Peaker »

I fancy installing a triple set of VDO gauges from a Golf / Corrado / Audi 80. These include an oil temp and oil pressure gauge.
What senders do I need to run them? JK only seem to do them for air cooled engines (mine is a 1.9DG watercooled).

Having read the old posts and Wiki on the oil warning light and buzzer, it seems each engine has a completely different set-up :?

I fitted a single VDO oil pressure gauge to a 1.9dg and what you need is a sender that gives an 'analogue' signal. ie will work with a gauge rather than a light (i'm sure someone will know the correct term for this) i got a dual one from Machine 7 so that i could still have the standard oil light working alongside the new gauge.

This is where the fun and games start, the new sender will not fit in the position that the old one comes out of because the pushrod tubes are too close together and the new one is far bigger.

You need to mount it remotely using a short length of braided hose (some people use copper pipe with a tee piece) this you can decide for yourself.

As for temp i don't know but again someone else may have done it.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both - I had not heard of Machine 7 before.

I shall start assembling parts - and thinking of best place to mount gauges.
