Whats syncropendance like?

Hi guys,
Im relatively new here. Ive had a syncro for a while now but I usually frequent the type 2 Ireland forum. I go to a lot of their shows but Im always the only syncro. Anyway instead of going to vanfest again this year, I want to take in one of the syncro shows. I can only really make it to 1 British show a year because of the outrageous ferry prices and so on. I was thinking of going to syncropendance. Whats this show like? What sort of format does it take? Is there any traders or is it just a camping trip with offroading as well? Im a bit of a novice when it comes to offroading but I am a good driver and can control the van well. Will i manage? Oh and whens it on? I know its a while away but Im just thinking what to do.

Syncro-pendence is the weekend closest to 4th July.

The previous two years it has been based on a site in Wales.

We are considering changing the format for 2006, but the concept of it being all about driving and socialising will remain the same. It is also unlikely to move from a mid-Welsh location.

It's far better to view it as an event rather than a show. The only 'traders' who have been there have been driving their vehicles, there are no trade stands. People come to watch as well as drive, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Think of a bunch of people in a field and you won't go far wrong!

If you're planning on coming to drive and find out what your Syncro is capable of then get some 15" rims and mud terrain tyres and a tow rope. You'll have fun.

Mr airhead, talk to Andrew Scott (Ormsby), he came over for Syncropendence this year and has plans to return, maybe you could vehicle share.

) Plenty of novices here so you'll be in good company, maybe link up with Ormsby (based in Wicklow?) he came to the last one as the syncro embassador for Eire.

Sorry should have known it was around the 4th of July! I already know Andrew and have been offroading with him on a number of occasions. I asked him about it but I wanted to hear what other people thought about it too. I more than likely will be going anyway and Ill be in my own 1992 white RHD ex ambulance TD syncro. Unforunately it will be on road tyres but should be great craic one way or another. So do I need to be a member of the club?

Ross I have managed to get 215/75/15 MT remoulds for £40 sterling in Belfast. I have located the correct 15" steel rims in Londonderry so if you want to buy an early Christmas present for your van .........

Yes, you will need to be a member of club80-90 Syncronauts.
This is not a big deal, but get onto the Syncro website and find the application form and send it in sometime prior to the week before the event...

Look forward to meeting in a 9 months time, unless you and Andrew can come over to what might be a Scotfreeze event in January, where mud terrains might be less of a necessity.

RUSSEL HERE:Clive i think this is looking a lot more like end of March since i will be back in SA for Feb. so not much time to organise an event close to that time.Plus i need to finish my new Syncro-Mog TDI for this event(with lots of insulation to keep Mr Frost at bay.

Though March can be pretty brass monkeys up there I remember.

..and I don't think anybody is holding you Northerners to a definite yet, but a nice idea whenever it happens.

Just to add

I don't own a Syncro BUT some of the owners are very generous and allow other drivers to use their vans. These guys AND girls are great and the weekends are about socialising as much about off road driving too. Well worth going - though for you Airhead a TAD expensive

Sounds like a fun trip! Yeah it will be pricey but still a lot cheaper than bloody vanfest! Me and my overspending!

Andrew, Im going to be doing up my interior over the coming weeks. Im going to buy the materials this evening and start putting it together so more new wheels are the last thing on my mind. I got a spare wheel rack for the back though so that will be going on soon as well.
