AAZ TURBO and engine help

Post by roadmark69 »

I am putting AAZ engine in my van. After re-indexing the turbo (original) will the engine mount need modifying and can I use original oil return pipe? Will the exhaust down pipe off 1.6 TD fit manifold off 1.9 AAZ?

Exhaust will fit if you use the JX manifold.
I presume that when you say you've reindexed the turbo it's because you are using the JX manifold.
You don't need to weaken/chop/hack/modify the mounting if you use the JX manifold.
I have oil return lines on the shelf with block bungs and spigot shaft bearings.

mine's running aaz manifold and turbo, in the same position as removed from the TOLEDO, although a fair bit of engine mount filing was required!

It's currently got the standard oil return set up (into the block) and this hasn't resulted in any APPARENT problems (others report burning excess oil after cornering etc). However I still intend to get a custom pipe made up to run back to the sump (brickwerk's are too short as they're made for the turbo in the JX manifold position)

turbo indexing

This is how my turbo oil drain runs with no engine mount cutting and no bearing angle reindexing.

Will the exhaust down pipe off 1.6 TD fit manifold off 1.9 AAZ?

Doesn't the exahust pipe fit to the turbo, not the manifold?

Good photo, and useful if you have one from a bit further back showing the top of the turbo as well. Any chance if re-sizing a bit smaller please, so all can see in one shot without scrolling (800x600 usually works OK on the forum) - we could use something like that in Wiki, with a few more details of the parts used in this arrangement.

No problem, I'll resize it, upload it to Wiki space and re-link it here...

A description of what you've put together would be good if you manage a few more photos, can send them to me at moderator [AT] club80-90syncro.co.uk if you like and I'll get them put up.
These TD diesel conversions are getting popular and a consistent source of questions
