MOT failure - just

Post by mattk918 »

put the caravelle in for a MOT today, assumed that there would be a few items needing attention and it failed......just.

The only thing it failed on was the end 6" section of tailpipe that fell off the day I picked her up. If i thought that was all that was wrong i'd have sorted it before putting it in. Shame that the bolt heads have totally rotted away... think the quick/easy solution is to weld a new section onto the old tailpipe flange..... bit of a bodge but the easy option for now!

If you just cut off the remains so that it is tidy I dont see why they should fail it?

Does it matter which way it points.

prob the only option... unless you can grind the crud away to get the old flange off then drill and tap the silencer flange.... (thats what I had to do...)

From the MOT inspection manual....

Method of Inspection
1. Examine the condition of the whole exhaust system, including the silencers and mountings, for security, deterioration and completeness.
Reason for rejection
a. a part of the system missing or excessively deteriorated

i snaped off the tail pipe, i bought a dress up slash cut one and then welded in to the triangular flange (removed it from the van frist). i had to drill the bolts from the silencer as they cooked on to the silencer. i think that it loos better than before and wont get smashed when off road.
