Alternator/belt problems.

Post by StevieD »

Hi all,new to the forum, but so glad I found it.

I'm having all kinds of trouble with my local garage.
The problem with the van appears to be that the alternator is at an angle, causing the belt to also be at an angle thus causing it to become slack, wear and eventually come flying off while I was driving up the M1!

The garage are saying they can't fix it and can only suggest a new belt.
Surely that's not a solution........is it?

Any help would be great,or even better someone in my area (Sheffield) who could come and have a gander.

Engine is a 1.6 Diesel water cooled '83.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Thanks for your response mate.
I had a good Auto/Sparks look at it a few days ago and he couldn't see how it had "tilted"as the mountings are cast.
With my limited knowledge I can't see that it's bent.
I'll know a bit more tomorrow hopefully and will try and post a pic.

Thanks again.

Steve.
