[Westy End]

anyone had any experience of one of these? I know it looks flimsy but the views on the internet say they are no worse or better than other wind out awnings.

IMHO simple geometry and physics say that 50" support/mount for 10'x6' sail will not hold up to much wind.

We have a 2.8m x 2.25m caravanstore.. full length attachment to van, support from van to outer edge and down to ground,... and we often take it down when wind gets up.

One gust and that kites gone.
These shadys are great for continental/mediterranian use.

Any gust over 10 mph will get you worried.
Caravan store awnings are tough and you can buy the tie down kit with screw anchors ...(for camping on top of a cliff in Cornwall )

as i suspected - looks neat and tidy though. I guess i will stick to the £10 gazebo for this summer and see how it goes.

Shady Boy

Brought one direct from US and fitted it to my Westy (Dollar was then about 2 to the pound which made it around £200). As to the wind problems; it came with guy ropes to stop it flying UP and clip on poles to stop it blowing down. It survived the wind and rain from last years Vanfest. The only complaint I had was that water dripped into the door from the small gap between the "box" holding the Shady Boy and the body gutter. Anyway I like it - so there.

It's too bad that the people who have no experience with a product are always willing to make wild, unsubstantiated claims.
I've had a Shadyboy for eight years, and it works very well. With the downdraft poles added, there is nowhere for the awning to go when it gets windy. Much better than the large, heavy, expensive case awnings used by many van owners, weighing only 6.5 kg, and no moving parts to wear/break!
