Re: CT Flywheel
Its not a reverse thread but they are done up as tight as the rear hub nut... 350Nm!
Now thats pretty tight so you're going to need some serious stuff to undo them. If you have a torque bar (which you should have to do them back up again!) then use that.
I took mine off a few years ago and I know what you're going through!

Re: CT Flywheel
The only way I undid mine was when the engine was stripped and I could put the crank into a press to hold it still then using a 1" drive socket set with a bar crack it off - not much help for you
The only way I can think of is to do the old weld a 1 inch drive socket onto a piece of large bar and then to fill the cylinders with oil to stop the engine turning...

Re: CT Flywheel
Eh???
CT has a 5 bolt crank......... (IIRC) sounds like its been rebuilt in the past and type 1 crank and flywheel has been fitted...
Need to strap the engine down to something very solid and well supported under the heads etc, with a good flywheel locking tool and use a 3/4 drive socket and length of scaffold pole,...

Re: CT Flywheel
hmmm
the only other thing I can think of then is it's an alteration - I know they altered these engines mid production from the Haynes books but they don't mention a different crank/flywheel only heads and CAM's and an improvement to the oil thrower on the fan end of the crank - they put a proper seal in there....

Re: CT Flywheel
Hello,
I have a CT engine, with......1 x 36 mm flywheel nut.
To remove you will need to make up the following:
1). A 1 metre length of heavy (say 60 x 60 x 4 mm) angle iron to which you weld 2 lugs near one end, with holes pre drilled in them to accommodate the lower engine studs. This is so you can apply a lot of effort without scrunching the cylinder head into the workshop floor.!!!
2). 2 pieces of U section channel (60 mm wide by 30 mm deep) about 60 mm long. To these you weld 1 x M10 studding, which passes through the upper engine bolt holes and fixes with nuts so that they will block the flywheel You may have to pack with washers to fill the lip on the crank case.( you DO NOT want to break bits off your engine)
3). A commercial vehicle grade ( at least 3/4'' drive) 36 mm socket and breaker bar.
4). A length (say 1 metre) of heavy steel tube large enough to slide over the breaker bar.
The idea is to set the operation up on a hard clean floor so that by standing on the end of the extension tube you will be able to apply the (at least) 150 ft lbs needed to undo the nut easily (in a normal anti clockwise direction.)
If this does not seem too daunting please feel free to pm me and I will send you diagrams and photos. I'd lend you my kit, but I live in France, and I dread to think of the postage!!
Cordialement,
John
By the way, I have the Haynes manual (Nr: 638) and I have the impression that all their 'in house' photos are of a 2 litre engine .
