coil light staying on 1.6td ???

Hi all ,
we have recently bought an 89 1.6 td calafornia ,the engine is nearly new covered only 8k ,when i turn the key and then wait for the light to go out it never does but i leave it a good 10 secs and then start it anyway.The engine runs great so no probs there ,does anyone have any ideas what it could be :?

I'm certainly no expert and some one will come along who knows more - but I have a 1.6TD and have to leave it up to 20 - 30 secs for the light to go out. have you tried waiting a little longer?
